Calusa Nature Center has several educational opportunities for people of all ages, where you can learn about Southwest Florida’s natural habitat and the wildlife that lives here. We have daily reptile presentations, where we show a variety of different animals including turtles, alligators and snakes. Our Animal Talks presentation allows visitors to get an up close look at some of our resident creatures, including skunk, a fox, and raccoons! Our Aviary House holds injured birds of prey like hawks, vultures, and owls, and provides them with medical attention that they need.
Calusa Nature Center has the only planetarium in Southwest Florida, and seats 87 people and 3 wheelchair spaces. Constructed in 1986, our planetarium dome is 44 feet in diameter and features upgraded speakers and projectors. Our planetarium is open every day and has three educational shows daily. At Noon, we have an Asteroids and Meteorites presentation. Our second show of the day searches for planets beyond our solar system in the Discovering Other Worlds program. The third show of the day explores the deepest reaches of the galaxy. The planetarium at Calusa Nature Center also hosts laser light shows every month, as well as other special events.
