A vast portion of Pine Island is zoned as agricultural which helps keep the area rural, plus many visitors travel more than a hundred miles to purchase tropical fruit such as lychee and mangoes grown and sold only Pine Island. Matlacha with it’s jumble of colorful shops and art galleries, seafood markets, funky waterside restaurants and a community park that fronts Matlacha Pass, where kayaker’s enjoy the Great Calusa Blueway paddling trail.
